Is the Stock Market Open Today? Here Are the Hours for Thanksgiving Day.

It’s turkey time.

This year’s Thanksgiving will look much different from last year’s pandemic-tinged holiday. More Americans will travel this year, with the Transportation Security Administration predicting roughly 20 million air passengers the week of Thanksgiving. That would be very close to prepandemic levels, the agency said. Vaccines and booster shots have helped enable the return to normal.

Investors may be asking: What about the stock market?

Is the Stock Market Open on Thanksgiving Day 2021?

The New York Stock Exchange and Nasdaq will be closed on Thanksgiving, Nov. 25, in observance of the national holiday. The same is true for U.S. bond and over-the-counter markets will also close.

For Black Friday, Nov. 26, the NYSE and Nasdaq will open at 9:30 a.m. and close at 1 p.m. Bond and over-the-counter markets will close at 2 p.m. tomorrow.

Are Foreign Stock Exchanges Open on Thanksgiving?

Global stock markets are open on Thursday, Nov. 25. Currency markets also are open.

How Busy Is the Stock Market the Week of Thanksgiving?

Going back to 2008, the average trading volume on the NYSE and Nasdaq during Thanksgiving week is less than half of a typical week, according to Dow Jones Market Data.

The S&P 500 index has risen 25% in 2021, while the Dow Jones Industrial Average is up 16% during the same period.
